I just returned from Kaiser - visiting GMA and Janet. Effective this morning, she is off of the respirator/ventilator. They removed it from her room. She is now just receiving oxygen through the trachea. This is huge - as it makes her options of where she goes upon discharge much greater, and of course, and increases her liklihood for recovery. I haven't spoken to a doctor to determine how/if the trachea would ever be removed. They also removed the feeding tube and she is having her first (soft) meal today. They are doing this very cautiously so that she doesn't aspirate. She had a huge smile of her face. Love to you all.
